Overlooked Maintenance Items that Can Significantly Increase Your Vehicle's Lifespan

A vehicle is an investment - it cost thousands of dollars, and will require regular maintenance for upkeep and proper operation. For most, it is in your best interest to protect your investment by taking excellent care of your vehicle. The better you take care of your car, the more money you'll save yourself on major repairs and the better resale value it will have if the day ever comes where you decide to trade in or sell. To ensure that your vehicle lasts long and runs at its best, it is vital to keep track of your car's recommended maintenance and service.

As an auto repair shop, we commonly see some important maintenance items ignored or overlooked that we feel can significantly increase your vehicle's lifespan, and also help save you money. All of these items are manufacturer recommended services that are typically needed based on mileage intervals. We understand that most drivers ignore these services because they don't want to spend the money - however, they don't realize that by ignoring them, they are actually costing themselves more money in the long run.

Here are some of the most common overlooked maintenance items:

Brake fluid flush

Your brakes are vital to your safety on the road. Brake fluid is not immune to problems, either. It actually attracts moisture over time, and this moisture can affect its ability to create the right hydraulic power needed to power your brakes. Moisture also starts to rust and damage brake components, which can lead to additional repairs needed. You never want to find yourself without working brakes, so a brake fluid flush is important. This service is typically needed every 30,000 miles or so.

Transmission fluid flush

Transmission fluid is important to ensure that your vehicle's transmission runs smoothly. This fluid tends to break down and and degrade over time, which can lead to irreversible transmission damage. We often see that transmissions can fail after 100,000 miles, and a transmission fluid flush can help you prevent this. We recommend this service every 60,000 miles or so, or as recommended by your vehicle's manufacturer.

Coolant flush

Coolant is important to the health of the engine; it helps ensure that the temperature is regulated while your vehicle runs. Coolant is another fluid that degrades over time and the ph levels will become out of balance. Low or dirty coolant causes engine damage, so we recommend this service every 60,000 miles or so.

Cabin air filter replacement

Many times we have vehicles come into our shop that have NEVER had their cabin air filter replaced - most drivers don't even know what this is! The cabin air filter determines the air quality that you breathe in your car. A severely dirty cabin air filter can affect your health. Replacing this filter is inexpensive and can make a huge difference in the air you breathe.

Valve adjustments

Newer vehicles have automatic valve adjusters, but older model vehicles do not. These valves should be inspected regularly to ensure that they aren't too tight or too loose, which can cause issues with your vehicle's power and efficiency. Plus, the engine can become damage from bad valves.

These are just a few of the maintenance items we see overlooked that can make a big difference. If you're due for any of the services listed above, don't hesistate to bring your vehicle into Auto Clinic Care today for an inspection. We will inform you of any needed maintenance items that will make a difference when it comes to your vehicle's integrity and lifespan. Call or stop by today!
